Head coach Dan Campbell has taken a star turn in Applebee's commercials. Wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown has a popular podcast with his brother, and he's also in commercials for Little Caesar's Pizza. Defensive end Aidan Hutchinson is in State Farm ads, which surely makes Lions' fans a little sad after he suffered a broken leg in Week 6.
In general, amid their rise to success, the Detroit Lions have become a popular team across the country and a team coveted by the networks for primetime and standalone games. Leaving aside the fanbases in the NFC North, really two in particular that generally just can't handle the fact they are no longer a pushover, the Lions are a team people can root for beyond their own favorite NFL team.
The NFLPA has released an update ranking of player jersey sales, tabulated from April 1-Oct. 31. Two Lions are in the top-10.
Hutchinson is No. 4 on the list, and St. Brown is No. 6. No other team has two players in the top-10
Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud is No. 1, followed by Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Detroit Lions massive popularity clearly shown by jersey sales
As expected, five quarterbacks are in the top-10 in jersey says over the recent span. St. Brown beat out Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson as the top wide receiver, while Hutchinson joins Las Vegas Raiders defensive end (and dreamt about future Lion) Maxx Crosby as the only defensive players in the top-10.
The Lions bringing back their black alternate jerseys last spring was a sure-fire driver for a spike in jersey sales for all of their most prominent players in recent months, and their fans in particular surely bought a lot of new jerseys. But having two players in the top-10 in jersey sales means NFL fans well beyond Lions' fans have bought Hutchinson and St. Brown jerseys, which is confirmation of where they are as a popular team across the country (and world-wide).
