On Tuesday, Applebee's came out nowhere to drop a great new ad for their 50-cent boneless wings featuring Dan Campbell. On Wednesday, when of course asked about it after the ad went viral the day before, the Lions' head coach sheepishly acknowledged there would be more commercials to come.

"Unfortunately, there’s more to come, I’m afraid,” Campbell said.

The wait was not long. On Thursday, hours ahead of the first game of the 2024 NFL season between the Baltimore Ravens and Kansas City Chiefs, we have a second Applebee's ad starring Campbell.

Check out the new Applebee's ad featuring Campbell.

Campbell is a new hire as an assistant shift manager, first shown using a coaching-style motivational speech to inspire his crew.

“We’re more than servers. Feel the energy coursing through your veins,”

Then Campbell's "management style" is further revealed in the ad.

"Now that I'm on this team, we're gonna have a different level of production."

"I'm all about friendly competition in the workplace."

The last line comes as Campbell eyes a "Team Member of the Month" award on the wall. He mutters to himself, "I'm coming for you, Craig", then says more loudly, upon seeing "Craig", "Next month, this is my wall."

The ad ends with Campbell sitting down. After a pretty diabolical-sounding laugh, he says he'll have the staff working seven days a week to "turn this thing up."

The second ad isn't a stretch from his role as Lions' head coach, but Campbell is showing some actual acting chops in these ads. His natural mannerisms and manner of speaking translates easily to the medium, but he's also got some sense for nuance and timing in delivering his lines.

There is another Applebee's ad out there, featuring (mostly) just narration from Campbell over appearances by San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy and Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley.
