The Detroit Lions have revealed their alternate helmet, and the Twitter reaction is coming in.
Over 36 hours from their initial tease, the Detroit Lions revealed their alternate helmet on Wednesday. It pays homage to the franchise's history, with an alternate logo from the 1960's. It's also blue, and a shade of blue that has never been worn in the NFL before.
Much of the early sentiment about the Lions' new helmet is going beyond the helmet itself, stretching to the pairing of it with the all-gray alternate uniform. Some may say the old-school logo is flat-out ugly, even as it also looks like an homage to the Ford Mustang logo, or that it's at least a little bit primitive-looking.
But overall, the helmet is pretty awesome. But of course there are people out there who wouldn't say that, and Twitter is an easy forum to pass along those thoughts quickly and in short form.
Twitter reacts to unveiling of Detroit Lions alternate helmet
Here's a look at some of the Twitter reaction to the Lions' helmet reveal.
Most of the negative reaction to the helmet ties it to the usage of it with the all-gray uniforms, and to criticize that combination choice is absolutely fair. But apparently it's hard for some people to just give an opinion on the helmet as its own thing, one way or the other, and not tie it to the ugly head-to-toe gray uniforms.
The rest of the negative reaction to the new Lions' helmet mostly rests on the logo, be it that it "looks like it's from a 3rd grader" or it looks like the logo of "a USFL team of some European car manufacturer." That's when there can be a reminder that it was created over 50 years ago, as an alternate logo.
So what do you think of the new Lions helmet? Give it a grade, a 1-10 ranking, whatever moves you. I give it an A-, with a slight knock for the logo, and on a scale of 1-10 it's a 9 for me.
