Lions quarterback Jared Goff is an absolute no-brainer start in fantasy football for Week 1 vs. Chiefs
Most of you have already had all your fantasy football drafts for this year, but there are some drafts coming Tuesday or Wednesday before the Thursday night season opener.
Perhaps you waited to take a quarterback, or you will end up waiting to take a quarterback. In the case of waiting to draft a quarterback, drafting two is in play and Lions quarterback Jared Goff might have been (or will be) one you took.
Goff was a top-10 fantasy quarterback last year. Those who have or will have him rostered know (or should know) his home-road splits quite well by this point, as a driver for when to use him in a lineup. On that premise, the season-opening road game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday night to open the season would be seen as a no-go to start Goff.
Not so fast.
Jared Goff is an absolute no-brainer fantasy start in Week 1 vs. the Chiefs
Lions-Chiefs has the highest over-under on FanDuel Sportsbook for Week 1 (54.5 points, odd subject to change). It promises to be a high-scoring affair, and early September eliminates concern over Goff's home-road or indoor-outdoor splits. Take the over on a Goff pass attempts prop that's below 40.
The Chiefs will be without stud defensive tackle Chris Jones on Thursday night, as he continues his holdout. That will obviously have a noticeable impact on what the Lions' offense is able to do, and there is some finer data as it pertains directly to Goff.
The Chiefs don't get after the passer nearly as well without Jones, as expected, and it's well-known how much Goff loses effectiveness when he's pressured.
If you're debating between Goff and a quarterback who is not a lead-pipe lock to be in your season-long Week 1 fantasy lineup, he combines upside and a comfortable volume-driven floor in a way few in that tier do this week. Goff is also an easy choice for pertinent Week 1 DFS lineups.
