The Detroit Lions fell short of making Super Bowl LVIII, blowing a 24-7 halftime lead to lose the NFC Championship Game to the San Francisco 49ers. But this team is not going away, even if it will be a great challenge to get back to the conference title game and win it if that next opportunity comes.
The offseason is off to a nice tart for the Lions. Offensive coordinator Ben Johnson took himself out of the running for the remaining two head coaching jobs this week. Defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn was a finalist for the Washington Commanders' job that went to Dan Quinn. There's unfinished business to get done in Detroit next season.
That said, the Lions have some clear needs and ample cap space to try to address them in free agency as they eye taking that next step. It's clear Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell value culture fit as much as, if not more than, pure talent when considering who to add to the roster via free agency/the draft, and it's working. So "fit" will be a big factor in any potential dips into free agency this offseason, which may leave some fans disappointed with what's ultimately done.
But as the Lions start to shape their offseason plan, with who to pursue in free agency of course a prominent piece of that plan, these free agents who will are on the teams in Super Bowl LVIII should be on their radar.
