Unfortunately, injuries seem to be a key piece to the fabric of the current Detroit Lions. And, that injury misfortune has hit rookie wide receiver Kendrick Law. Law, who was taken by the Lions in the 5th round of this year's NFL draft, suffered a torn ACL during OTAs, per head coach Dan Campbell. He will now miss the entirety of his debut season.
Law was brought on as a bit of a flier, although his blocking tape and his YAC stats were probably what intrigued the Lions enough to want to integrate him into their offense. He could've likely carved a role with the special teams unit, but now, he'll be watching from afar as he misses out on a critical development year.
The former Kentucky product joins 2025 rookies Miles Frazier and Ahmed Hassanein as the latest neophyte to go down before he could even take a snap in the regular season.
Law goes down with torn ACL amid Lions OTAs
Detroit has had some seriously terrible injury luck in recent seasons, and this is just the latest in a string of unfortunate hits to their depth. Now, the team will be headed into further OTAs and offseason activities with a slightly thinned out wide receiver room.
Law was not the only addition by the team at the position, though, shining a bit of a light on the work the team did to ensure they had proper depth headed into the 2026 season. Greg Dortch was brought in by offensive coordinator Drew Petzing to add to their depth there, and he'll likely be competing even more strongly for the role of the Lions' top kick returner in 2026.

The rookie receiver was taken out of Kentucky in this year's draft, having posted 540 receiving yards and three touchdowns for the Wildcats in 2025. He led the team in receiving yards. He had 505 yards after the catch on the year, too, demonstrating just how strong he was as a weapon for Kentucky, despite them not being that large of a powerhouse last year.
Without Law, the team still has a good idea of their special teams unit and returners. Dortch will be a key component, while Sione Vaki, Jackson Meeks, Dominic Lovett, Tom Kennedy, and Jacob Saylors all figure to be important to that unit.
