Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs had an impressive first week under the play-calling of head coach Dan Campbell, earning NFC Offensive Player of the Week honors for Week 10.

This is Gibbs' second Offensive Player of the Week honor, with the first being his Week 18 performance last season against the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC North and #1 Seed-clinching game.

Gibbs rushed 15 times for 142 rushing yards. Gibbs also had three receptions for 30 yards, for a total of 172 yards from scrimmage. In addition, Gibbs rushed for two touchdowns and caught an additional one for three TDs on the day. It was a remarkable turnaround from Week 9's performance, where Gibbs amassed just 28 yards from scrimmage in a loss to the Vikings that proved to be the catalyst for Campbell taking over play-calling duties.

Gibbs wins the honor in a loaded week with contenders including Lions quarterback Jared Goff, for his three TD and 320-yard performance, and former Lions QB Matthew Stafford, who threw for four TDs of his own. Goff was the NFC Offensive Player of the Week in Week 2, and was the most recent Lion to win the award. Gibbs and Goff make up two of the six NFC North players to win the award this season.

The NFC Defensive Player of the Week was awarded to Seattle Seahawks' defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence, while the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week was awarded to New Orleans Saints' defensive tackle Nathan Shepherd.

On the AFC side, Indianapolis Colts' RB Jonathan Taylor won AFC Offensive Player of the Week, Houston Texans DE Danielle Hunter won AFC Defensive Player of the Week, and New York Jets returner Keke Nwangwu won AFC Special Teams Player of the Week.

The Eagles pose a big test for Gibbs and the Lions' run game

A repeat performance against the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles would be a sight to behold and quell any fears that last Sunday's performance was a fluke. However, the Eagles will still pose a significant challenge.

While the Eagles' run defense isn't as elite as most expected them to be, ranking 19th in rushing yards allowed per game (114.4), it's still a talented squad that was ranked in the top ten last season (104.2). This season, the Eagles have yet to allow a player to rush for over 100 yards. The closest to doing so was the New York Giants' Cam Skattebo, who rushed for 98 yards in the Giants' upset victory.

The Eagles recently got some reinforcements in the newly un-retired pass rusher Brandon Graham, newly healthy linebacker Nolan Smith, and newly acquired LB Jaelan Phillips. This new-look Eagles defense was dominant in their 10-7 victory over the Green Bay Packers. Packers RB Josh Jacobs still turned in a good game, rushing for 74 yards and a TD along with 33 receiving yards, but the Packers struggled to get anything going beyond that. That Jacobs' TD came with just under six minutes left to go in the game.

Gibbs' Week 10 performance was definitely a relief for Lions' fans, who have been concerned about the inconsistent run game under offensive coordinator John Morton. Under Campbell, the Gibbs and David Montgomery pair looked every bit as dynamic as they were last season, which could be a good sign of things to come.
