After multiple weeks nominated, Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown finally won Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week for Week 18.
Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown was one of the most productive wide receivers in the NFL over the final six weeks of the 2021 season (51 catches for 560 yards and five touchdowns). He was thus nominated for Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week five times in that span.
For his performance in Week 18 against the Green Bay Packers (eight receptions for 109 yards and a touchdown, one carry for 12 yards), St. Brown finally took home the award.
Amon-Ra St. Brown proved the Lions right
St. Brown finished his rookie season with 90 receptions for 912 yards and five touchdowns. He proved to be a draft day steal in the fourth round last April, and he’s plenty motivated by his draft wait. He won NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month for December, as his late run surely helped win a lot of fantasy football leagues.
Lions general manager Brad Holmes talked about how well St. Brown has fit (h/t to SI.com).
“With St. Brown, he’s still in a mold of he was who we thought he was going to be. It’s the same thing. You can say, ‘Well, he’s a fourth-round pick. You’re not expecting it’ But, Amon-Ra — and I said it to you guys earlier after we drafted him — he reminded me of some of the guys that we had when I was back in LA and I believed that he showed that in his own way,” “He’s a culture fit for what we’re all about, but again, I think everything just kind of clicked for him kind of late. But we always knew he had the intangibles and work ethic and he’s just a pro’s pro in the way that he’s wired. That equated to a lot of his success on top of his physical ability.”
