Amon-Ra St. Brown was one of the most productive receivers in the NFL in December, and he’s gotten a well-deserved award.

In four December games, Amon-Ra St. Brown had 35 receptions for 340 yards and three touchdowns. Only one player had more receptions (Cooper Kupp-40), and only three wide receivers (Kupp, Tee Higgins and Justin Jefferson) had more yards than the Detroit Lions rookie wide receiver this month.

On Thursday, the NFL named St. Brown Offensive Rookie of the Month for December. He is just the fifth Lion to ever win an offensive rookie of the month award, and the first since running back Jahvid Best in 2010.

Via the Lions PR Twitter account, here’s what St Brown accomplished in December.

-35 receptions, leading all rookies and second in the league
-340 receiving yards, sixth in the league
-At least eight receptions and 70 yards in all four games
-At least 85 yards and a touchdown in three of four games
-Joined Odell Beckham Jr. (2014) and Jaylen Waddle (2021) as the only rookies in NFL history with at least eight catches in four straight games
-Became first NFL rookie since Beckham and Jarvis Landry (both December of 2014) to have 35 receptions in a calendar month
-Joined Calvin Johnson (2012) as the only Lions players to have at least eight receptions in four straight games
-Most receptions a Lions rookie has ever posted in a single month
-First Lions rookie since the merger to post at least 70 receving yards in four straight games
-Second-most receiving yards ever posted by a Lions rookie in a single month (Dave Middleton, 411 yards in November1955)
-First Lions rookie to put up 90 receiving yards in back-to-back games since Middleton

Amon-Ra St. Brown draws second comparison to Hines Ward

Last week, Lions offensive coordinator Anthony Lynn compared St. Brown to former Pittsburgh Steeler Hines Ward. This week, wide receivers coach Antwaan Randle El did the same.

“I tell people all the time, he reminds me a lot of Hines Ward,” Randle El said. “Just in terms of his blocking style and catching style and, like, his attitude toward the game. Like it doesn’t matter who you are, he’s going to try to go after you. That’s good. That’s good to see him doing that.”

Of course Randle El knows pretty well of which he speaks there. He played with Ward in Pittsburgh for five seasons.

St. Brown had a fantastic month of December, as the Lions went 2-2, and he was a no-brainer choice for Rookie of the Month.
