The Detroit Lions

While the other Detroit sports franchises have been busy regressing. the Detroit Lions have steadily built themselves into contenders.

The path to contention got its jump start with the hiring of general manager Bob Quinn who has instilled a New England Patriots like approach to the roster adding depth and acquiring high draft picks that have yet to live up to their potential.

Quinn has also nailed his first two drafts, locked up Matthew Stafford and Jim Caldwell long term, and put the team in a position to win for the foreseeable future.

Owner Martha Ford, who hired Quinn, and new team president Rod Wood also deserve a shout out as they have excelled in their new roles with the Lions. Wood spearheaded the 100 million dollar renovations to Ford Field and is trying to bring the NFL draft or a Super Bowl back to the Motor City.

With a franchise quarterback in place and strong leadership from the front office down the lowly, hapless Detroit Lions could finally find themselves in a Super Bowl in the near future.

Never thought I’d see the day, but if not for the Lions the Detroit sports scene would be a very dark and depressing place right now.
