If there were a version of Aldon Smith that had never been in trouble, he would be the top free agent in the NFL.  So no matter what the Lions wouldn’t be able to get him. But unfortunately that version doesn’t exist. Aldon Smith did get into plenty of trouble. The question shouldn’t be will the Lions sign him? The question should be will anyone sign him? There’s a good chance the answer is yes, somebody will. It’s most likely going to be the team he’s currently on and not the Lions.

Even if the Lions took this chance, Smith is currently serving a one year suspension that won’t be up till November. At that point he would have to apply for reinstatement. Who knows what happens from there. I really do hope that Aldon is rehabilitated. But he’s just too much of a character risk for Bob Quinn.
