Sportz Assassin featured myself and the Bengals lead blogger. We talk about how awesome it is to root for winless teams and together we ponder how on Earth our coaches still have jobs!

Here’s a sample:
Sportz Assassin: Its no secret that both teams’ fans have some hate toward the ownership. Both are family run and are seemingly out of touch. How do you feel about your owners?
Kevin Ferguson (Lions blogger): Yeah, you flip on sports talk radio on a Sunday around 4:15pm and you’ll hear the constant and pervading calls that say the same thing 10 different ways: “The Lions [...]

He apparently canceled a meeting and workout with another team, and apparently the Lions didn’t even flinch when he wanted a 2 year contract (WTF?!?!?) but still nothing has officially happened and the team and the unsigned free agent haven’t said a word.
So we don’t know what’s going to happen. What I would like as an explanation is why they would consider any kind of long term contract when this regime is going to change. Why should Rod be allowed to saddle the new guy with some broken quarterback that is going to moan and whine if he doesn’t get the start? [...]

This is to sell tickets.
Don’t get your hopes up about winning much, Culpepper as at best completely unproven in the wake of his last productive snaps being 4 years behind him. BUT, this will sell some jersey’s and, as I’m sure the Lions upper management hopes, put some home games back on TV. And really, that’s the fervent motivation here: selling tickets.
Getting your games blacked out in todays NFL is nothing short of incredibly embarassing and each blocked broadcast is a black eye for the organization.
The season is clearly a wash at this point, the young guys should be taking these snaps. [...]

Word on the street is that the Chiefs were interested in him as well, he’s turning down that opportunity to come to Detroit as he feels he has the opportunity to be a starter here.
Is there any gas left in the tank? He’s a salty dog that was good in the NFC North and just never bounced back from injury. Is Calvin Johnson a lot like Randy Moss and Dante thinks he can light up the field?
We’ll update when things become official.

Time to go champ. Can we say it any more clearly? :
Special teams was a disaster, the defense just wasn’t there in the second half of the game and our offense couldn’t get it done in the clutch.
I’m over Dan Orlovsky. His numbers are OKAY, he pulled an 88.2 QB rating mainly because he doesn’t turn it over. But a QB that doesn’t turn it over is like a Defense Lineman that never gets called offsides. Great there’s no punishment, but it’s because the guy won’t take risks. You get sacks when you jump the snap and you get big [...]

From Freep.com
“The effort is there, but the above-the-neck stuff is sometimes not there,” Barry said. “We have a little lapse mentally, a missed tackle here or there. That’s not due to a lack of effort or a bust. It’s just simply not making a play.
“That happens all of the time. I mean, around the league you see those things happen. It just seems, for whatever reason, it’s intensified with us. When we screw something up, instead of it being an 8- or 10-yard gain – bam! – it’s a 60-yard gain.”
The breakdowns have been costly. Against Houston, Steve Slaton broke a 37-yard [...]

We won’t see the ’skins game. This is annoying, so unless I actually spend money and go, I’m going to have to just listen to it on 97.1FM until the NFL Replay Airs on the NFL Network.
This is annoying and frustrating, maybe the Jaguar fans can offer some advice.
For the trivia minded, the Lions have played 51 straight sold out games, all of which were at Ford Field except for one: the very last game at the Pontiac Silverdome on January 6th, 2002. Oddly enough, the last black out was the game played the week prior on December 30th where [...]

As of this morning, there are about 6000 tickets still available. The Lions have until 1:00pm this afternoon to sell out barring an extension from the NFL.
***UPDATE***
They didn’t sell the tickets. So there will be no television coverage locally.
We can listen to the game on 97.1 fm and that’s it.

(yeah, Pat acknowledges he’s getting some mileage out of the Obama Posters).
We can make this season a success by making it a major failure. The more they lose, the more we need to show up and cheer. In 20 years, people will still be talking about this team, linking to Youtube clips of Orlovsky’s safety and Paris Lenon will be writing a special column on ESPN.com about how funny it was to be a part of the worst team in NFL history.
What’s the alternative? Another 2-14 campaign and a high draft pick? We can do better than that.

The bottom line is that we lack talent on both sides of the ball. 0-6 is a rough, rough way to start the season, and yet, for us it’s also a familiar one. In fact, we just did this 2 years ago during Rod’s first season.
The problem with writing about the Lions is that it becomes impossible to pick apart a game. You can’t compartmentalize bad plays or lost games as isolated incidents when the evidence just keeps piling up over the course of 8 years. The mantra has been to get rid of Millen, but now that he’s gone, [...]
