Where does Jahmyr Gibbs land on list of running backs under the age of 25?
Despite a relatively slow start, as he was eased in to action, Jahmyr Gibbs still topped 1,200 yards from scrimmage with 11 total touchdowns as a rookie last season. Which makes what Lions general manager Brad Holmes said about him early this offseason a scary thought for opposing defenses.
"He’s (Gibbs) gonna be better next year, like this was just scratching the surface of what he did this year," Holmes said. "Next year’s gonna be even better which is scary."
Gibbs got big praise from two of his peers among the best young running backs in the NFL this offseason. Bijan Robinson and Breece Hall both put Gibbs in their top-5 running backs in the league.
There's no doubt Gibbs is among the best young running backs in the NFL, no matter who's doing the ranking. He is also gaining a place among the best running backs in the league, regardless of any age criteria or cutoff.
Where does Jahmyr Gibbs rank among the best young running backs in the NFL?
Dallas Robinson of Pro Football Network has ranked the best running backs in the NFL under the age of 25.
"Running back is a young man’s position. While some outlier backs can maintain success into their thirties, most successful RBs trend toward youth."
"Jahmyr Gibbs got off to a cold start in his 2023 rookie campaign, but he looked like a potential All-Pro by the end of the year. Gibbs was on a 1,184-yard, 15-touchdown pace over his final 11 contests and could overtake veteran David Montgomery for lead RB duties in 2024."
'The No. 12 pick in last year’s draft, Gibbs was a big play waiting to happen. His 17 runs of 15+ yards trailed only Christian McCaffrey, and only Jonathan Taylor averaged more yards after contact. Gibbs needs to work on his pass blocking before becoming a true three-down back, but he’s clearly ascending."

So where exactly did Gibbs land on Robinson's list?
7. Kenneth Walker, Seattle Seahawks
6. James Cook, Buffalo Bills
5. Kyren Williams, Los Angeles Rams
4. Jahmyr Gibbs, Detroit Lions
3. Breece Hall, New York Jets
2. De'Von Achane, Miami Dolphins
1. Bijan Robinson, Atlanta Falcons
In whatever order you'd put them in, it's hard to not have Gibbs as one of the top three running backs under 25 in the NFL. It's a small quarrel, but Gibbs should be a little higher on this list, replacing Achane in the top-3.
