Jared Goff gets incredibly lame spot in quarterback power rankings

In the big picture, I'm as skeptical about Jared Goff as anyone. I see him as a limited quarterback, who when things aren't pristine in the pocket becomes borderline unplayable. And what happens when Lions' offensive coordinator Ben Johnson takes a head coaching job?

But in each of the last two seasons, Goff has finished top-10 in the NFL in passing yards, passing touchdowns, passer rating, yards per attempt, yards per completion, pass completions, etc. So how many quarterbacks can you comfortable rank ahead of him right now, looking toward the 2024 season, should you want to rank the league's quarterbacks? You might struggle to get to 10.

Actuall, you will probably struggle to get to 10 quarterbacks you would rank ahead of Goff without a doubt or any debate. And I say that as a Goff "truther" about what he is and what he isn't as a sheer talent compared to his peers.

Jared Goff gets very lame spot in CBS quarterback rankings

Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports has offered up a new power ranking of NFL quarterbacks in mid-May. No. 1 is obvious-Patrick Mahomes.

Benjamin then has Brock Purdy at No. 2, ahead of Josh Allen and Joe Burrow. C.J. Stroud rounds out the top-five, followed by Lamar Jackson, Jalen Hurts, Dak Prescott, Justin Herbert and Jordan Love to complete the top-10.

Aaron Rodgers is No. 11, followed by Tua Tagovailoa at No. 12.

Where the heck is Goff?

Goff comes in at No. 13, and here's what Benjamin wrote.

"Perhaps no signal-caller has done more to restore respect in recent years, rewriting his reputation as a gutsy figurehead for the Lions' return to relevance. Now comes another chance to prove himself, fresh off a bid for a Super Bowl appearance that painfully fell short."

Goff has put a lot of respect back on his name over the last couple years with the Lions. Be he apparently has not done quite enough to be ranked as a top-12 quarterback in the NFL right now, at least according Benjamin.
