As expected, even it might have been nice to see a significant move in at least one area, the Detroit Lions have not spent a lot of money in free agency so far this year. Before free agency even started, they re-signed a few players (Michael Badgley, Jalen Reeves-Maybin, Emmanuel Moseley) and tendered offers to a chunk of their restricted free agents to retain their rights for 2024.

The Lions have had a couple noteworthy losses in the early portion of free agency, losing left guard Jonah Jackson to the Los Angeles Rams and defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson to the Philadelphia Eagles. Both were expected to be gone though, and the contracts both received confirmed there was no shot they were coming back to Detroit. There was surely a plan to replace them before free agency even started.

Among the rest of their free agents, wide receiver Josh Reynolds lingers as a potential loss of note for the Lions

The Lions may be fairly active in the next wave of free agency, with some pieces they could (should?) still be looking to add from outside the organization. General manager Brad Holmes openly said he looks at free agency to fill needs, and there are certainly a couple of needs to fill after the "frenzy" wave of this year's free agency.

There may be some noteworthy moves to come, even if they won't be massive contracts at this point. But with the new league year now officially started, let's grade the Lions' notable moves thus far in the 2024 offseason.
