Detroit Lions practice squad tracker: Who is coming back for an extra look?
The Detroit Lions have their full 53-man roster now, after being awarded linebacker Trevor Nowaske off waivers on Wednesday. As they made their initial roster cuts, those players were freely available to be signed back to the practice squad or even the 53-man roster as the active roster is a living, breathing, ever-changing entity.
With the waiver process for initial roster cuts expiring at noon ET on Wednesday, teams started shaping their practice squads. Before getting into who the Lions will have on their practice squad going into the season, let's do a refresher on some core parts of the league's practice squad rules.
- Every NFL team is allowed to have a total of 16 players on the practice squad, and up to six of those spots can be occupied by players with two or more years of accrued NFL experience
- Starting this year, a 17th practice squad spot is allowed to be filled by a player from the International Player Pathway Program
- Each practice squad player can be elevated to the active roster a total of three times during the season before they must either be signed to the active roster or placed on waivers. Each team is allowed two practice squad elevations each week, and the number of elevations for each player resets if they pass through waivers after their third elevation.
Here's who will make up the Lions' practice squad as of it's first iteration for 2024.
