Detroit Lions post-minicamp 53-man roster and depth chart projection
With mandatory minicamp in the rearview mirror now, here's a fresh 53-man roster and depth chart projection for the Detroit Lions.
Offseason work is almost over until training camp for the Detroit Lions, with four days coming this week Monday-Thursday. But mandatory minicamp was last week, so attendance and/or prominent player participation this coming week stands to be less for what's certain to be pretty light work.
Still, with whatever can be gathered from practices with no-pads, it's time for a fresh 53-man roster projection for the Lions. And how about a fresh depth chart projection for some spots after minicamp? We'll take a run at that too here.
Battles for roles and roster spots will naturally ramp when the Lions reconvene fully for training camp. But we can confidently project a big chunk of the 53-man roster heading into Week 1, with Jameson Williams' six-game suspension to start the season factored in prominently. The health of rookie quarterback Hendon Hooker when the season starts is also something that carries weight as the active roster is honed in.
Here's a post-minicamp 53-man roster and depth chart projection for the Detroit Lions.
Detroit Lions post-minicamp 53-man roster and depth chart prediction
Quarterbacks (2)
1. Jared Goff
2. Nate Sudfeld
3. Hendon Hooker (PUP list)
Hooker is a strong candidate to start the season on PUP list, in what will be a "redshirt" rookie season for him coming of a torn ACL last season at Tennessee. Barring a late signing, Sudfeld will remain as Goff's backup.
