Look away from the screen or look away from Twitter at any point during the Detroit Lions' Week 2 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, and you might have missed someone being banged up, leaving the field or an injury update. That's what it felt like anyway, as a long list of Lions' players came out of the game banged up.
Two of those players, safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson (torn pec) and edge rusher James Houston (fractured ankle) were put on IR this week. There's a chance both are back before the end of the season, but it feels slim in both cases.
Beyond that, the Lions were actually pretty fortunate on the injury front. Wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown is apparently not dealing with turf toe, though he told reporters on Friday he will wear a steel plate in his shoe. Running back David Montgomery suffered a thigh injury, when it looked like it could have been much worse, and he was listed as doubtful (and not downgraded to out on Saturday) for Sunday's game.
Detroit Lions inactives list for Week 3 vs. Atlanta Falcons
Here are the Lions' inactives for Week 3 against the Atlanta Falcons.
OT Taylor Decker
RB David Montgomery
OG Halapoulivaati Vaitai
S Kerby Joseph
CB Emmanuel Moseley
DL Brodric Martin
Decker will miss a second straight game with an ankle injury.
Montgomery will indeed be out, after faint hope he might play.
Moseley added a hamstring injury to his recovery from a torn ACL, so his Lions' debut will have to wait.
Vaitai seems to be facing a multi-week absence with a left knee injury, but that he has not been placed on IR is a positive sign.
Joseph suffered a hip injury early against the Seahawks, but he was able to come back in and play most of the game.
Martin is a healthy scratch for a third straight game. The rookie nose tackle's NFL debut will be postponed again.
Here are the Week 3 inactives for the Falcons. Former Lions cornerback Jeff Okudah will make his Falcons' debut against his former team.
RB Cordarrelle Patterson
CB Clark Phillips III
OL Jovaughn Gwyn
OL Isaiah Prince
DL Albert Huggins
DL Joe Gaziano
QB Logan Woodside (emergency No. 3 quarterback)
