David Montgomery signed with the Detroit Lions during the offseason, but he got to watch the team from afar with the Chicago Bears prior to that.

Dan Campbell has been a free agency draw for players, and Montgomery was likely no different. Now that he's worked with Campbell more closely, how has the experience been?

As Montgomery told the media Monday, it's been different than his experience in Chicago, but of course in a good way. That's especially true given Campbell's energy level.

"It's definitely been a change of pace from what I'm used to. He's very big on energy. High energy guy. Coach Campbell to me, have you ever seen the (Jolly) Green Giant? That's what he reminds me of. This big giant human. He walks around with his chest out so you kind of gotta watch how you step around it. He is a super cool dude. Wants to make sure you stay on top of everything, do everything right. A great coach. Definitely super dope to play for a guy like that."

Campbell has drawn many comparisons since becoming Lions coach, but Montgomery's might be the best. Campbell does have a larger-than-life feel, but also a soft side that he routinely displays.

David Montgomery hoping to play vs. Packers on Thursday Night Football

In terms of his readiness for Thursday night, Montgomery says that he is feeling good coming off a quad injury and is taking things day-by-day with his preparation.

Still, the competitor in him wants to get back on the field.

"I'm a competitor. I want to play whether it's Green Bay or it's high school. I just want to play ball. I want to go out and play with my guys knowing what they sacrifice, knowing the things that I've sacrificed as well so I definitely want to go out there and play ball."

So far, Montgomery is off to a decent start this season. Though he was sidelined Week 3, he has still tallied 141 rushing yards and two touchdowns. The Lions managed without Montgomery to the tune of 115 rushing yards Week 2, but a dinged-up offense would function better with him.
