Dan Campbell added another to his list of great post-game speeches (video)
Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell is becoming must-see tv for his great appearances in a new set of Applebee's commercials. But that recent star turn should not lead anyone to overlook the quote machine he can be as a coach, or his routinely great post-game speeches after big wins.
Sunday night's season-opening win for the Lions over the Los Angeles Rams certainly wasn't the prettiest thing ever put on tape. But the Lions rallied back after giving up the lead and got the win in overtime. It's the kind of win good teams get, despite not playing their best. Which isn't to discount the effort the Rams brought.
In the post-game locker room, Campbell gave game balls to running back David Montgomery and linebacker Alex Anzalone, who both played huge roles in the win.

Here's Campbell's locker room speech.
"That team gave us everything they had, man,” Campbell said. “They did. They threw it at us, man, and give them some credit. They laid it on the line all the way, but the bottom line is, man, it’s hard to break us, now. It’s hard to break us. As a matter of fact, you ain’t gonna do it.” And we just had to buy our time, find our rhythm, defense we held...offense we do what we gotta do to get into overtime. And then we win the toss, Goff nice job, we go all the way down. That's a damn good win...."
Lions' teams before Campbell was the coach, and even in his first season, would have routinely lost a game like Sunday night's. But the talent level of the roster now matches the mentality he has instilled in the players literally from Day 1 when he was introduced as head coach. Victorious post game locker rooms are now the norm, as the Lions have won 21 of their past 28 regular season games.
The punchline from Campbell's speech Sunday night should be immortalized on a wall somewhere in the team facility shortly.
"It’s hard to break us. As a matter of fact, you ain’t gonna do it."
