Best Detroit Lions prop bets for Week 5 vs. Carolina Panthers
As usual, before jumping into Week 5's Detroit Lions prop bets let's see how Week 4's prop bets did.
TE Sam LaPorta, Over 4.5 Receptions (+116, FanDuel; +130, DraftKings): 4 receptions
WR Amon-Ra St. Brown, Over 6.5 Receptions (+104, FanDuel): 5 receptions
St. Brown, 80-plus receiving yards (+116, FanDuel): 56 yards
Ouch. But as also usual after a tough week, it's on to the next one. The Lions will welcome the 0-4 Carolina Panthers to Ford Field in Week 5, with a bit of revenge on their minds after bad loss to them on the road last December, The Lions are up to a 10-point favorite now on FanDuel and DraftKings sportsbooks (odds subject to change).
With the sports book noted, here are our top Lions prop bets for Week 5.
3 best Detroit Lions prop bets for Week 5 vs. Carolina Panthers
RB David Montgomery, Over 70.5 rushing yards (-115, DraftKings)
Montgomery had a huge game against the Green Bay Packers in Week 4 (32 carries for 121 yards, three touchdowns), as the game script favored heavy usage for him (much to the chagrin of Jahmyr Gibbs' fantasy owners). He has scored in all three games he has played this season, with at least 74 yards twice (both games he finished healthy).
Carolina has the league's 27th-ranked run defense so far this season. All five running back that have had at least 10 carries against them this season has scored or had at least 98 total yards. All three with at least 15 carries have rushed for a least 75 yards.
The Lions likely to be playing with a lead. A generous run defense. Over 70.5 rushing yards for Montgomery is an easy bet. If you want to get a little cuter, over 73.5 rushing yards for Montgomery is -114 on FanDuel.
RB Jahmyr Gibbs, 40-plus rushing yards (+126, FanDuel)
Doubling up on the Lions' backfield here. Even if Gibbs gets less usage than Montgomery, again, the Panthers are allowing 4.7 yards per carry (tied for fourth-worst in the league). The rookie back has also rushed for at least 40 yards in three of four games this season.
There's room for Gibbs to eat in this game too. I'd set a hypothetical over-under line for his carries at 10, and as long as he gets close to it 40 rushing yards is low-hanging fruit at plus-money.
QB Jared Goff, Under 242.5 passing yards (-115, DraftKings)
Leaving aside Goff's home/road splits, since this game is at home and he's good at Ford Field, the Lions just aren't lined up to need him to air out on Sunday. I was tempted by the under on 238.5 passing yards (-114, FanDuel Sportsbook), but I went with the DraftKings prop at a bit higher yardage over-under.
