4. EDGE James Houston
This one comes with a massive caveat. Houston simply needs to be in uniform on Sunday if he's going to have a chance to shine. He was a healthy scratch in Week 1, and signs are pointing to it happening again this week.
That said, Davenport almost surely being out Sunday opens up a potential opportunity for Houston. The Lions could use help getting after Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield, so if he's a healthy scratch again....
Even more than any need the Lions might have for him to perform well as a pass rusher, Houston needs to shine against the Buccaneers on a personal level. He needs to take himself out of the conversation as someone who doesn't belong on the roster if he can't (or isn't being allowed to) contribute anything.
The announcement of Sunday's inactives, 90 minutes before the 1 p.m. ET kickoff, will say it all about where Houston is. If he's inactive, it's not a stretch to suggest he won't be on the roster by this time next week.
3. WR Amon-Ra St. Brown
Week 1 will just go down as one of those days for St. Brown (three catches for 13 yards), as the Rams put a clear focus on limiting his impact. He'll naturally be more involved going forward, and the matchup against the Buccaneers puts him in prime position for a big rebound.
Over the two games against Tampa Bay last year, Week 6 in the regular season and the playoff game, the "Sun God" had 20 catches (on 29 targets) for 201 yards with a touchdown in each contest.
The Buccaneers have been hit by several injuries in their secondary, thinning an already not-that-great group of cornerbacks. If we need more evidence it's an exploitable matchup for the Lions' passing game, and St. Brown especially, Pro Football Focus has provided it.
"Must shine" can practically become "will shine" when it comes to what St. Brown will do on Sunday. But said big performance, however easy to expect in a fantastic matchup, still has to actually happen.
