3 veterans who won't be on the Detroit Lions roster come Week 1
The Detroit Lions have had a fairly quick rebuild, going from 3-13-1 in the first year of the Dan Campbell/Brad Holmes regime to 9-8 last season to being the favorites to win the NFC North this year. There are legit expectations around the team for the first time since........
With better talent on the Lions' roster, the battles for some roster spots naturally become more intense and more interesting. A 53-man roster projection done after minicamp may mostly hold up come the end of August, but there will be some interesting position battles to watch and thus we'll see how the roster heading into Week 1 is allocated by position. Some good players may be let go in something of a numbers game, and quickly find opportunity elsewhere.
The Lions are in a position to be choosy. "May the best man win" during training camp will yield a deep roster, as well as viable options on the practice squad heading into the season. But something, or should we say someone/multiple someones, will have to give when final roster cuts come. Outside additions could still be made at a few spots to alter the equation.
On that note, these three veterans are in legitimate danger of not being on the Lions' roster come Week 1.
