Earlier this week on "The Pat McAfee Show", ESPN's Adam Schefter laid out his expectation that both Detroit Lions' coordinators would be getting head coaching jobs in this cycle. It's not a revolutionary idea, despite what some Lions' fans might say, but it was interesting to hear an informed opinion on the matter.

After that came all kinds of new buzz attaching Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson to the Las Vegas Raiders, followed by NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reporting Johnson to the Raiders is seen as the expectation by many people around the league.

Amidst all that, on his podcast, ESPN's Adam Schefter was skeptical of why Johnson would want to go to the Raiders.

"If he takes the Raiders job, he's now going to a division where the head coaches are Andy Reid, Sean Payton and Jim Harbaugh and the quarterbacks are now Patrick Mahomes, Bo Nix and Justin Herbert," Schefter said.

Adam Schefter goes hard against idea Ben Johnson is going to the Raiders

Schefter made his third appearance of the week with McAfee and his crew on Friday. Talk about head coaching vacancies and candidates led to a conversation about Johnson.

"I know everybody's got Ben Johnson anointed to the Raiders...I'm not in that camp right now. So I'll have to believe it before I see it", Schefter said.

After McAfee responded at bit, Schefter continued.

"Here's my question. Again, I don't know where he's gonna go", Schefter said. "He's gonna have, I think, three realistic options. Why is everybody ignoring Chicago when it comes to Ben Johnson? Why has that been, just dispelled? I don't get it. What am I missing here?"

McAfee answered with the idea the Bears' organization is perceived as a "bit of a s**t show", within the idea Johnson will be picky with where he goes. Schefter went back to the point he made on his podcast.

"Ok, so if you're gonna be very picky, again I know this Raiders' freight train has gathered a whole lotta steam...By the way I wanna say, for the record, it could happen. He could be the coach there", Schefter said...."you're telling me Ben Johnson turned down the chance to coach Jayden Daniels, last year, so he could go to a place, this year, in Las Vegas, without a top pick, without a quarterback, that plays in a division with Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert, Bo Nix, Andy Reid, Jim Harbaugh, Sean Payton ... does that make sense to you?"

The challenge of the Raiders' situation in the AFC West is clear, and the same could be said for the NFC North in terms of a juggernaut division. The difference between the Raiders and the Bears right now is the Bears have their quarterback for the foreseeable future in Caleb Williams. Johnson could pick the quarterback he wants in Las Vegas, as part of the clean slate there.

Schefter's sentiment about the Bears and Johnson backs up what Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports reported Thursday regarding the Lions offensive coordinator being part of a "two-horse race" for that job. The conflict in reporting simply proves that no one truly knows anything concrete right now, and Johnson staying with the Lions again is definitely in play.
