NFL insider invites scenario Lions fans would rather just ignore

If what an NFL insider says means anything, and it should have some meaning, Lions fans will not be happy at some point in the coming weeks.

With success comes other teams coveting your people, and the Detroit Lions are dealing with that on multiple levels as teams who are looking to improve their situations make changes.

Offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn are of course the headliners on that front, with a combined nine initial interviews for head coaching jobs during the Lions' bye week. Teams will now have to wait to do in-person interviews with them until the Lions lose or after the Super Bowl, but those who really want them will wait as long it takes to get their guy,

A strong segment of Lions' want to ignore the possibility Johnson, Glenn, or both leave for head coaching jobs before "we" win the Super Bowl. While that is somewhat possible, especially in Johnson's case, the reality feels different and to ignore the possible loss of one or both of them in service of fan-driven sentiment is foolish.

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter typically only appears on "The Pat McAfee Show" on Mondays each week, but with news about head coaching searches and whatnot he appeared on Tuesday's edition of the show.

Schefter talked about the New York Jets' head coaching search, with an obvious mention of Glenn being "square in play there." Then he reached a tentacle about both of the Lions' coordinators.

"Aaron Glenn is gonna get a job in this cycle. Ben Johnson is gonna get a job in this cycle", Schefter said. "And I think that there's every possibility, and probably likelihood, that the Lions are gonna be losing both their coordinators in this cycle. I'd be really surprised if both of them didn't come out of this with head coaching jobs."

Schefter honed on one of the Lions' coordinators at the end of his comments, saying it'd be a "major upset" to him if Glenn didn't get a head coaching job. Schefter can get a little "word-salady" at times, but his broader point to include Johnson as also inevitable to get a head coaching job in this hiring cycle doesn't come out of thin air.

During his press conference on Monday, Lions head coach Dan Campbell had a great response to a question about Johnson and Glenn. He also hinted at what would be the expected level of communication with his coordinators about their recent interviews, and what he may know about if they're leaving.

Things can change quickly as teams hone on hiring a new head coach. But the possibility the Lions lose Glenn and Johnson in this year's hiring cycle, which has always been there, now cannot be ignored with Schefter suggesting it's practically inevitable.
