Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams facing two-game suspension

According to ESPN's Eric Woodyard, Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams is facing a two-game suspension for a violation of the NFL's performance-enhancing substances (PES) policy.

Per the policy, a player is subject to a two-game suspension when they test positive for a "stimulant, diuretic or masking agent."

This is the second time in as many seasons Williams has been suspended. In April of 2023 he was initially suspended six games, though it was later reduced to four games when the rules were revised, for a violation of the NFL's gambling policy-mobile betting on non-NFL games from a team facility.

Williams of course also missed a large portion of his rookie season in 2022 as he worked his way back from a torn ACL in the National Championship Game that January.

Williams had finally put it all together so far this season, with 17 receptions for 361 yards and three touchdowns. His average of 21.2 yards per catch is second in the league. His presence has notably impacted how defenses play the Lions' offense, something offensive coordinator Ben Johnson called the "Jameson effect."

Woodyard added a note with a statement from Williams.

"Jameson Williams is disappointed with the current suspension but says he has “no choice but to take it on the chin.” 
“I’m in good spirits just ready to get back with the my brothers ASAP soon as possible,” Williams told ESPN."

It doesn't sound like Williams will appeal the suspension. So under that assumption and if the suspension holds, he will miss Week 8 against the Tennessee Titans and Week 9 against the Green Bay Packers before he can return in Week 10 for a Sunday Night Football matchup against the Houston Texans.

Likely due to the report surfacing after 10:30 p.m. ET Monday night, the league has not announced Williams' suspension or the details of his violation as of this writing. The Lions have also not yet issued a statement.
