The 2026 NFL Draft is less than a week away, and Detroit Lions fans are eagerly awaiting what general manager Brad Holmes has up his sleeves this year. According to Chad Reuter's latest seven-round mock draft, the Lions are projected to select former Penn State quarterback Drew Allar, following the departure of backup Kyle Allen this offseason.

Allen left the Lions this offseason to sign a two-year deal with the Buffalo Bills. With Allen now gone, the Lions quarterback room behind starter Jared Goff consists only of Teddy Bridgewater, who rejoined Detroit this offseason.

Lions mock draft predictions has Detroit favoring offense

With only two active quarterbacks on the Lions roster, fans shouldn’t be too surprised if Detroit opts to take a quarterback in the later rounds of the draft, and Allar could be that choice. Reuter has the Lions taking Allar with the No. 128 pick in the fourth round of the draft.

Reuter's mock draft also features the Lions bolstering their offensive line protection for Goff ahead of the 2026 season, selecting Utah offensive lineman Spencer Fano with the No. 13 overall pick in the first round.

Other notable projections for the Lions include selecting Michigan edge rusher Derrick Moore at No. 50 overall in the second round and Duke center Brian Parker II being taken at No. 118 overall in the fourth round.

Allar's college career with Penn State feautred several highs and lows

Allar experienced all the possible highs and lows during his college career with Penn State, including leading the Nittany Lions to the College Football Playoff Semifinal at the Orange Bowl, where they fell to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish 27-24. Allar's late-game interception set up a game-winning field goal for Notre Dame.

Entering last season, Allar was among the preseason favorites to win the Heisman Trophy before suffering a season-ending left ankle injury that required surgery. In his four seasons at Penn State, Allar threw for 7,402 yards, 61 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions.

Allar has the talent to be a quality backup in the NFL, and before his injury, some saw him as a potential starter in the league. He could, of course, still make his way back up to being considered for that role. With just Bridgewater waiting in the wings in case of a Goff emergency, it's high time the Lions address their QB room with a solid developmental pick like Allar.
