One good thing to come out of the Detroit Lions finishing last in the NFC North last season is the last-place schedule they'll have this season. In fact the, schedule is the easiest in the NFL by many measures.
Everything is aligning for a rebound season after missing the playoffs last season. Of course, the placement of certain games is something to pay attention to, but three of the Lions' eight road games will come before their Week 6 bye.
One of the subsequent home games is in Germany, but five of the other seven games in a eight-game stretch from Week 7-Week 14 will be in the friendly confines of Ford Field.
Ian Hartitz of Rotowire highlighted a key dynamic of the Lions' 2026 schedule, with more than a hint about what that could mean for the fantasy impact of key players.

The Lions don't have a clear-cut bad weather game until Week 17 on the road against the division rival Chicago Bears. Mid-November in Germany could be a little hairy, but it won't be what the Windy City can be during the winter.
Like a commenter to Hartitz's tweet noted, a Week 17 game at Soldier Field feels ill-timed for fantasy managers who end up with key Lions' players on their roster. In particular, it could be a rough week for quarterback Jared Goff and the passing game if the weather goes full "Chicago in early January."
Lions' 2026 schedule dynamic brings back recent memories
While there is still a tilt toward home and indoors, as there would be for pretty much every quarterback in his situation, Goff's home/road, indoor/outdoor splits are not as pronounced as they once were. Still, it's another layer to him that can be tough for his fantasy managers to navigate, with easier games layered in there too.
If the Lions avoiding a cold weather game until very deep into the season feels familiar, it should. The same thing happened in 2024, when a trip to Chicago in Week 16 was the first (and only) true cold weather game they had. There's even some outside of the division opponent overlap between the two schedules (Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Arizona Cardinals, Tennessee Titans, Buffalo Bills).

Of course, the ending to that 2024 campaign was not great for the Lions, with a one-and-done playoff exit at the hands of the Washington Commanders. But they used a favorably laid out schedule when it came to the prospect of bad weather, and beating up some bad teams like a good team should, to go 15-2 during the regular season en route to the No. 1 seed in the NFC.
That's not say a repeat is in in store for the Lions this year, since 15 regular season wins is hard to pull off even when a ton of circumstances tilt favorably. But, it is an interesting schedule quirk to avoid a real cold weather game for so long, again.
