When the Detroit Lions last played, Week 4 against the Seattle Seahawks, Jared Goff set an NFL record for most pass attempts without an incompletion in a single game (18). He didn't register a perfect passer rating (155.8), thanks to the random formula used to calculate that statistic, but he was the no-brainer NFC Offensive Player of the Week.
Goff has certainly had bigger yardage games in his career than the 292 he had two Monday nights ago, and two touchdowns without an interception has not been a rare occurrence for him.
What stood out most about the Seahawks' game was going 18-for-18 on his pass attempts. No incompletions is an equal testament to good fortune (no drops by pass catchers, no throwaways due to pressure, etc.) as it is to how sharp Goff was. And mentioning good fortune does not discount how well he played. It's just hard to go without an incompletion in a game, which is proven by Goff setting the record.
Jared Goff say he has had better games than the Seahawks' game
Goff spoke to reporters on Tuesday. He was immediately asked if he's ever played as well as he did against the Seahawks, and he took it a step further.
"I have, yeah,” Goff said. “There are other games that I felt like I’ve played even better. We just had no incompletions — which is rare, but there wasn’t like a – I felt good, yeah, I felt good, but I’ve had games where I feel even better, and things are clicking even more. I think we can get there. We can do even better and continue to improve.”
Goff didn't mention any specific games where he felt like he played better than he did against the Seahawks.
But looking at his career game log, Goff had the second-highest yardage total (465) of his career and one of his two games with five touchdown passes against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 4 of the 2018 season (with zero turnovers). He also had a perfect 158.3 passer rating that day, which is of course the only game he has ever done that; despite having seven incompletions (26-for-33).
