The Detroit Lions wrapped up their preseason on Saturday against the Houston Texans, and the teams' focus now shifts to the 2025 regular season. The Lions finished the 2025 NFL preseason with a 1-3 record, with their one win coming against the Atlanta Falcons.

With the preseason now in the rear view mirror, the Lions' final 53-man roster is slowly coming into form after multiple cuts on Monday, most notably backup quarterback Hendon Hooker, wide receiver Jackson Meeks, and offensive tackle Dan Skipper, all finding themselves on waivers.

With the Lions' regular season set to kick off less than two weeks from now against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field, coach Dan Campbell and his coaching staff feel confident about the roster that he has going into the season.

"This is the best that we've felt about it top to bottom, and now that being said, there are still holes," said Campbell. "I bring this up all the time, every roster has holes.

Compared to past seasons, Campbell believes that this year's Lions roster is deeper than previous years. Campbell credited Lions general manager Brad Holmes for how deep the roster is heading into the season.

"From where we come year after year, we've taken it to another level, and that's a credit to Brad," said Campbell. "What Brad's done in the personnel department is outstanding. He's continued to elevate the floor."

Several players' potentials on the roster are high heading into the season

This is an encouraging sign for a Lions team that comes into the season with a chip on its shoulder and is looking for redemption after a 15-2 regular season record in 2024 that ended in heartbreak in the NFC Divisional Round against the Washington Commanders.

Campbell feels like the ceiling of many of the players on the roster is not yet realized, and he also credits Holmes for making that possible with the moves that he has made.

"We don't even know the ceiling, there's so many of these players that are continuing to get better and better that are really good players. The floor has really raised, so our baseline is pretty dang good right now," said Campbell.

Detroit has a ton more work to do before shaving down their official and finalized 53-man roster for the Tuesday afternoon deadline.
