The Detroit Lions have a number of important injury cases to monitor for the 2026 season, and it's possible the most significant one will be safety Brian Branch.
Last season, Branch suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon injury which cut short his 2025 season. Worse yet, the injury will bleed well into 2026 and figures to cost Branch time this year. At this point, there's no concrete idea on when Branch figures to come back or what he will look like when he does play again.
That fact continues to worry some Detroit fans. The discourse regarding what Branch will look like when he returns has reached a fever pitch on X, with some contending that he's not going to be able to be the same player he once was.
Branch was watching what was going on, and re-posted the comment from the fan, which simply said they didn't have a good feeling about his recovery. Here's a look at the original comment.
Don't have a good feeling about Branch's recovery

The context here is the fact that Tracy Walker struggled to come back off his injuries at a similar position. He could have enjoyed a longer career if not for some ailments which slowed him down. The fan thinks that Branch could be heading for similar trouble.
It's clear Branch is supremely motivated to prove his doubters wrong. The fact that he is on the internet looking for fuel only proves how excited he is to get back on the field in time and show that his injury will not be career ending or legacy defining. That's good news as it relates to his motivation before the season.
Brad Holmes dropped hint that means good news for Branch injury
While many fans have theories about the recovery of Branch and the timeline it currently is following, it's obvious that nobody really knows what is going on quite like those in the organization. With this in mind, it's wise to pay attention to what the front office has done.
Holmes didn't elect to draft a rookie safety to compete this year, instead relying on a pair of veterans to restock the depth. As he explained after the draft, he feels good about where the group is at and the opportunity to add a young safety simply didn't mesh.
"It wasn't that we intentionally didn't draft a safety because we feel good about them. I feel like they're both trending in the right direction, but it just didn't line up, just like it hasn't lined up at other positions in the past. We didn't ignore it. There were some good ones that were out there that just got picked before we were able to. It just didn't quite line up. And I didn't really think that class was as deep either. So it had to line up and you had to strike, right?"

Even though Holmes claims the injury recovery didn't impact Detroit's thinking during the draft, it's pretty clear that if either Branch or Kerby Joseph were facing down a recovery that threatened their career, he would have been more motivated to grab a player at the position. That could mean there are good vibes regarding both Branch and Joseph.
It's obvious that Branch will not lack in motivation as he works himself back into game shape, no matter how he is choosing to gain the competitive edge.
