Another report points Aaron Glenn toward a particular head coaching opening

Aaron Glenn will garner interest for multiple head coaching jobs, but the tea leaves continue to point toward his interest in a particular one.

For all the reports about how intentional Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson will be in considering a head coaching job, a similar sentiment can absolutely apply to defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn. Glenn will not leave a good situation in Detroit for just any head coaching job.

Glenn is easiest to tie to two head coaching openings where he has deep ties. He was drafted by the New York Jets, played the first eight seasons of his career there and later worked as a scout for the team. He spent the final season of his playing career with the New Orleans Saints, then spent five seasons (2016-2020) as the Saints' defensive backs coach before following Dan Campbell to Detroit.

It's safe to say the Jets and Saints will have a lot of interest in making Glenn their next head coach, with plenty of reporting to back that up and overall situations in those organizations to confirm it.

Is Aaron Glenn most interested in a certain head coaching job?

On this past week's episode of his "Flight Deck" podcast, ESPN Jets' beat writer Rich Cimini again talked about the rumor mill as the team begins its search for a new general manager and head coach.

"Aaron Glenn, the Lions’ defensive coordinator, is very interested in the Jets position. Now, I have not talked to Aaron in quite some time, but I can tell you that he really, is really interested in the Jets’ position. I think he’d love to talk to them about it," Cimini said. "He interviewed with the Jets in 2021. I think at that particular time he was just getting on the head coaching radar, but obviously his stock with the Lions’ success is at an all-time high."

On the Dec. 4 episode of the podcast, Cimini passed along indications that Glenn at one time considered the Jets' head coaching job to be a "dream job."

"I've known Aaron a long time", Cimini said. "I remember talking to him, I think it was about two years ago, and he said it would be a dream to coach the Jets. That was two years ago, I don't know if that's changed at all, but I think he would be very interested in the position."

It's fair to assume Cimini wouldn't be attaching Glenn to the Jets' head coaching job like he is without knowing something he can't quite say publicly. Of course there's a big gap between informed reporting right now and Glenn actually becoming the Jets' head coach, but it's impossible to ignore all the tea leaves pointing that way if he does decide to leave the Lions.
