Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn may have a 'dream' head coaching job

Every week, as injuries keep coming, new pieces are counted on and the Detroit Lions' defense continues to have success, defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn's head coaching resume gets better and better.

Glenn is lined up for multiple head coaching interviews in the upcoming hiring cycle, and it's safe to assume he'll be somewhat selective in taking a job. The situation is too good in Detroit to just leave it for whatever opportunity comes.

History or past relationships Glenn has may push him toward certain head coaching openings, as it would tend to for any candidate for jobs. It's also fair to assume two teams Glenn has significant history with, the New Orleans Saints and New York Jets will have interest in making him their next head coach.

Does Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn still have a "dream job"?

On this past week's edition of "Flight Deck with Rich Cimini", the ESPN New York Jets' beat reporter talked about head coaching rumors as the team looks to permanently replace Robert Saleh. Glenn was easily mentioned, with Cimini expecting him to get a long look for the Jets' job.

Cimini noted how Glenn interviewed for the Jets' head coaching job in 2021, before Robert Saleh was hired. Cimini then revealed an extra note about Glenn and the job.

"I've known Aaron a long time", Cimini said. "I remember talking to him, I think it was about two years ago, and he said it would be a dream to coach the Jets. That was two years ago, I don't know if that's changed at all, but I think he would be very interested in the position."

Cimini had former Jets' safety Victor Green, a teammate of Glenn's for eight seasons (1994-2001) in New York, on as a guest. Green is all-in on Glenn being the next Jets' head coach, backing up what he posted on Twitter when the team announced their search for a new general manager and head coach.

The Jets hiring of The 33rd Team, founded by former general manager Mike Tannenbaum, to help in the search for new football leadership basically locks Glenn is as a head coach candidate that will be pursued. Tannenbaum hired Glenn to be a scout for the Jets, and more recently he has praised Glenn a lot.

Cimini acknowledged how the Jets may no longer be a dream job for Glenn, with two years of time passed since he said that. But it is an interesting bit of insight with Glenn being a top head coaching candidate.
