The Detroit Lions have locked in on a new offensive coordinator, set to hire Drew Petzing, and some fans aren't happy. After reports on Monday that Petzing was Detroit's target, Lions fans let their frustrations be known.
Star receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown immediately came to the defense of his new coordinator, calling out fans who have something to say about Detroit’s new coach.
On a recent episode of the St. Brown Podcast, the Lions receiver asked fans, who he said have been "talking crazy," if they do not have trust in Dan Campbell.
"I see crazy Lions fans talking crazy, like, 'Oh, why would we do this?' Like, bro, do you guys have no trust in Dan, in the Lions?" St. Brown said. "You think they would just hire a random dude? You think they don't know what they're doing, they don't do their research, they don't interview? Most of you guys don't know really much about anything, about any ball, and you're tweeting about a coach that was hired that you guys don't like because X, Y, Z."
Amon-Ra St. Brown tells Lions fans to relax after their criticism of Drew Petzing hire
The veteran receiver was definitely frustrated, because he accused Lions fans of not knowing ball but tweeting out opinions regardless.
St. Brown did make it clear, though, that he loves all of Detroit's fans; he just wants them to give Petzing a fair chance before they jump to judgments. It may already be too late for that, but, as things should be in football, what happens between the lines will have the ultimate say. How the Lions perform with their new coordinator will determine the quality of the hire.

Petzing has been working in the NFL since 2013, when he started with the Cleveland Browns as a football operations intern. He moved to the Minnesota Vikings the next season and stayed with them for six years, holding four different positions on the offensive coaching staff. He went back to the Browns for three years before eventually making his way to the Arizona Cardinals.
That's where he spent his last three years, serving as the offensive coordinator for Jonathan Gannon. The Cardinals averaged 20.9 points per game in 2025, 23.5 in 2024, and 19.4 in 2023. Those unexciting numbers are part of the reason why Lions fans have been so critical, but Arizona had a lot of issues. Ultimately, Petzing will have a new opportunity, with a much better group of players, to show what he can do as an offensive coordinator in this league.
