Amik Robertson is signing a new deal with the Washington Commanders, with NFL Network's Tom Pelissero first with the news. The veteran cornerback was a huge asset to the Detroit Lions this past season with injuries to both Terrion Arnold and D.J. Reed, and he's been rewarded with new contract for the 2026 season - just not with the Lions.
Per Pelissero, Robertson's new deal with the Commanders is a reasonable one - two years, $16 million. That would've been quite doable for the Lions, but they're still over the cap, and haven't announced any moves to get under it ahead of Monday's frenzy.

Robertson finished up his 2025 season with 12 passes defended, two forced fumbles, one interception, and 43 solo tackles. He was looked to as the Lions' CB2 behind either Arnold or Reed, with both missing time throughout the season.
The veteran defender was always down to help out wherever needed from defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard, and his leadership was felt throughout an injury-riddled year. Now, Detroit is without one of their best backups in the secondary, and they don't look to be that busy to kick off this year's free agency period.
