Aaron Rodgers takes opportunity to heap praise on Jared Goff

Think what you want about Aaron Rodgers, but he knows good quarterback play when he sees it.

Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff is on quite a heater lately, setting historic marks virtually on a weekly basis at this point. Over his last six games, Goff has completed 82.8 percent of his passes with 13 touchdowns, one interception and a 140.1 passer rating. As noted by Lions PR, that's the highest completion rate and passer rating over any six-game span in NFL history.

Goff isn't airing it out much, because he simply doesn't have to as the Lions are getting it done in all three phases. But the efficiency he is enjoying right now is amazing, as well as being unprecedented in league history.

The Lions have more offensive touchdowns over the last six games than Goff has incompletions (22). He has also connected with wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown on 30 straight targets, which is an amazing residual to how well Goff is playing.

Aaron Rodgers heaps big praise on Jared Goff

Say what you may about Aaron Rodgers, as he's moved from simply being a future Hall of Fame quarterback to being a more polarizing figure in recent years. But he undeniably knows what good and great quarterback play looks like, so in that sense his perspective is meaningful.

Rodgers made his regular appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show" Tuesday. Prompted by a question about having possibly watched the Lions and the Packers on Sunday, since the Jets played last Thursday night, Rodgers took an opportunity to praise his fellow University of California alum.

"Well, first of all, I love Jared. He's definitely a guy I've pulled for", Rodgers said. "He was written off, for sure. He was definitely written off. When the trade happened with Matthew (Stafford), I love Matthew too, he’s one of my favorite players to watch. The sentiment wasn’t, ‘Oh, just trading places for these guys.’ It was, ‘Oh, the Lions gave up a franchise quarterback for Jared Goff.’ That’s was the sentiment was."

"What he’s done is nothing less than sensational. It’s hard to complete passes at that rate. I can’t remember what the stat was, but it was a ridiculous stat, where you’re like, ‘How is this possible?’ Over five or six games, and only like 24 incompletions or something like that. That’s wild, it’s wild. It’s bananas," said Rodgers. "Give credit to his coordinator for sure, but please give credit to this man. This is not easy. Being that efficient, it is a testament for any quarterback, young or old. He’s throwing the ball downfield accurately, but he’s being really smart with the football."

Goff is obviously getting noticed widely for how well he's playing, as the Lions have also won six games in a row to assert themselves as the best team in the NFL right now. Lions fans may want to shrug off most anything Rodgers has to say, but he did not hold back when the door was opened to praise Goff.
