From the final six games of Amon-Ra St. Brown's 2021 rookie season to now, there are few more productive wide receiver-quarterback duos in the league than he and Jared Goff. In line with what Goff has done from an efficiency standpoint over the Lions' last six games, St. Brown has a six-game streak with a touchdown.
On Sunday against the Green Bay Packers, St. Brown caught all seven of his targets for 56 yards and a touchdown. That extended Goff's streak of completions when targeting the "Sun God" to 30 in a row. Goff hasn't had many incompletions lately, but the last time he had one when targeting St. Brown was on Sept. 22 (Week 3).
Per NFL.com, that 30 target streak without an incompletion is the longest streak by any QB-WR/TE duo in a single season since at least 1991.
Next Gen Stats clarified that St. Brown's streak of 30 straight catches is tied for the most for a wide receiver since 2016 (with Khalil Shakir).
As The 33rd Team noted, St. Brown has thrown a touchdown pass to Goff (Week 4 against the Seattle Seahawks) more recently than Goff has had an incompletion on a pass in St. Brown's direction.
Jared Goff-Amon-Ra St. Brown connection is on another level lately
With that streak of 30 straight catches going on, Next Gen Stats took a run a determining the probability St. Brown would catch each throw based on the difficulty of them (ball placement, separation from the nearest defender, etc.).
The chances of St. Brown's catch streak is 0.0001 percent, or approximately 1 in 780,000.
Goff has been historically efficient lately, no matter who he has targeted, and what he did in the rain and wind on Sunday (four incompletions, with one throwaway according to Pro Football Focus) was extra good considering those conditions.
After the game Sunday, Goff called St. Brown "the friendliest target I've ever thrown to." Head coach Dan Campbell also talked about the Goff-St. Brown connection after the game.
"The connection between those two? It’s special. Those two have been clicking now for four years — really three and a half, it started about halfway through that ’21 season and it’s just built from there. If you’re a quarterback, we’ve got a dang good one, but it’s easy to throw to a guy like St. Brown because he gets open, he’s got body control, balance, he can separate, he’s got quickness, he’s got play speed, strong hands,” Campbell said. “They’ve done it well enough that they can think without speaking. They know each other, what they’re getting ready to do, and all that. So it’s special and they make each other better.”
A reporter brought up the streak of 30 straight completions to start the conversation about the connection Goff and St. Brown have, prompting a light-hearted jab from Campbell about not wanting to jinx it.
"I hate it when you guys do that,” Campbell said. “Somebody finds something and then what happens when it’s incomplete? Could you just keep that to yourself?”
With how locked in Goff and St, Brown are right now, there's no telling how long this completions streak can go.
