Detroit Lions 2023 schedule opponents are now set
With the completion of the 2022 regular season, the Detroit Lions 2023 opponents are now set.
The Detroit Lions rallied from a 1-6 start this season to finish 9-8, their first winning season since 2017 in Dan Campbell’s second season as head coach. The future is very bright in Detroit, and a push to win the NFC North feels like it’s in the cards in 2023.
With that win over the Green Bay Packers in Week 18, the Lions finished second in the NFC North. That means they’ll have some 2023 opponents who also finished second in their division (NFC West, NFC East, AFC North), and in the yearly rotation the NFC North will play the entire NFC South and AFC West divisions next season.
It’s also the AFC’s turn to have a ninth home game in the 17-game schedule, so the Lions (and the rest of the NFC) will have nine road games next season.
Here’s a look at the Lions’ opponents for the 2023 season, split by home and away.
Detroit Lions 2023 opponents set: Home and away
Home: Green Bay Packers, Chicago Bears, Minnesota Vikings, Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, Seattle Seahawks, Denver Broncos, Las Vegas Raiders
Away: Packers, Bears, Vikings, Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Chargers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New Orleans Saints, Dallas Cowboys, Baltimore Ravens
Trips to Kansas City, Los Angeles, Tampa Bay, Dallas and Baltimore look challenging. Six 2022 playoff teams, and seven games against this year’s playoff teams, are on the Lions’ schedule next year.
The announcement of the dates and times for the 2023 NFL regular season schedule is likely to come in May. The Lions seem lined up to play a game overseas next season too, which would be taken from their road slate. The way they rose up this season, not to mention the way they played on Sunday Night Football to close this season, it feels like a lock they’ll have at least one scheduled primetime game too.
