Tyrell Crosby is clearly still mad about how the Lions handled his injury situation, but he took a far too-easy Twitter shot at Dan Campbell on Sunday.

Back in the summer, former Lions offensive tackle Tyrell Crosby went to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press (subscription required) with a story ripping how the team handled his injury situation.

That isn’t to say Crosby shouldn’t be mad, or the Lions didn’t botch his situation/treat him poorly. It was eventually found that he has a degenerative back condition after Lions’ staff was not sympathetic to his complaints of back pain, and he was waived with an injury designation (he apparently turned down an injury settlement, which he would have been entitled to). He had spinal fusion surgery in December of 2021.

Crosby’s playing career is probably over, and it’s worth wondering if that would be the case had his condition been detected earlier.

The Lions were competitive with the Dallas Cowboys for much of Sunday’s game, but an avalanche of second half turnovers was too much to keep coming back from in a 24-6 loss.

Dan Campbell is broadly not above criticism much of the time. But it’s hard to pin Sunday’s loss on anything beyond the offense’s ineptitude, highlighted by Jared Goff’s shortcomings being on full display.

But Crosby decided he would take the low-hanging fruit after the loss that dropped Detroit to 1-5 this season, with a Twitter post criticizing the Lions’ head coach.

"You mean to tell me a coach who’s entire personality is letting you know their caffeine intake and using a million words to say nothing coherent ain’t it… especially when you have one of the best OLs at your disposal."

Crosby didn’t necessarily have to tweet on Sunday for us to know he has no love lost for Campbell, or anyone else associated with the Lions. But he took the opportunity to offer a reminder anyway, for some, possibly still to-be-determined reason after a tough loss for the team.

It was low-hanging fruit for Crosby, with a helping of sour grapes from the former Lions’ lineman.
