Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown appears to have avoided major injury
The Detroit Lions have gotten some bad injury news, but wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown has apparently avoided a major injury.
The sting of giving away a win on Sunday has been further heightened for the Detroit Lions by a list of injuries coming out of a 28-24 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Tracy Walker is out for the season with a torn Achilles. D’Andre Swift is set to miss some time with shoulder and ankle injuries. Wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown suffered a right ankle injury in the game, but was only out briefly to get taped up.
St. Brown had 73 yards on a team-high six catches against the Vikings last Sunday, while playing 57 of 78 offensive snaps. But his injury was definitely worth wondering about as the new week started.
Tuesday morning, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported St. Brown underwent tests on his ankle Monday, and the results were “encouraging.”
It appears St. Brown has avoided a dreaded high ankle sprain, which could cost him multiple games. That he returned to last Sunday’s game against the Vikings so quickly is a good sign.
Amon-Ra St. Brown’s status a positive in a sea of injury negatives for the Lions
Naturally, the Lions will be cautious with St. Brown, so as to avoid him making his injury worse. Limited practice reps, if any practice reps, feels like a certainty starting Wednesday this week.
However, it’s safe to say St. Brown is regarded by the Lions’ coaching staff as a player who doesn’t necessarily have to practice much, or at all, in order to play on Sunday.
It’s possible, however unlikely if he has any say since we know how he’s wired, St. Brown is held out of Week 4 against the Seattle Seahawks. But at least he has apparently avoided a major injury, and he isn’t facing a lengthy absence. So there’s some solace in that for the Lions.
