Amon-Ra St. Brown obviously wins NFC Offensive Player of the Week for Week 2
No one was more worthy, and Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown has won NFC Offensive Player of the Week for Week 2.
Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown had nine catches for 116 yards and two touchdowns against the Washington Commanders, along with a team-high 68 rushing yards highlighted by a 58-yard run.
The second-year receiver also extended his streak of games with a least eight receptions to eight, tying the NFL record previously shared by Michael Thomas and Antonio Brown. With his performance in Week 2, St. Brown now solely owns the league record streak of games with at least eight catches and a touchhdown–six.
With his rushing production added in, St. Brown also became the third wide receiver in league history with 100 receiving yards, two touchdowns and 60 rushing yards in the same game. Randy Moss and Rob Gronkowski are the only other players in league history with a touchdown in six straight games at age-22 or younger.
Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown obviously wins Week 2 award
It felt like a no-brainer, with the Lions’ 36-27 win over the Commanders really a trivial detail. But St. Brown has indeed won NFC Offensive Player of the Week for Week 2.
"St. Brown became the first player in NFL history to tally at least eight receptions and a touchdown in six consecutive games with a scintillating showing on Sunday in Detroit’s 36-27 win over the Washington Commanders. St. Brown had nine catches for 116 yards and a pair of touchdown grabs, and added two runs for 68 yards on his way to being named NFC Offensive Player of the Week."
St. Brown won NFL Rookie of the Month last December, which was another no-brainer win of an award since he was one of the most productive pass catchers in the entire league over the final six weeks of his rookie season. He also won NFL Rookie of the Week for Week 18.
Jared Goff was the last Lion to win NFC Offensive Player of the Week, in Week 13 last season after the Lions’ first win of the season over the Vikings. The last Lions’ wide receiver to win the award was Calvin Johnson in 2015.
Former Lions cornerback Darius Slay won NFC Defensive Player of the Week for Week 2. The now-Eagle intercepted Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins twice last Monday night, along with five pass breakups as he shut down Justin Jefferson when matched up against him.
