4 Detroit Lions players to watch in Week 2 vs. the Commanders

The Detroit Lions will try to get in the win column Sunday against the Washington Commanders, and these four players will be ones to watch.

The Detroit Lions fell short of a comeback win in Week 1 against the Philadelphia Eagles, ultimately  losing 38-35. If the offense had put together a cleaner game and the defense could have a little bit better neutralized Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts as a runner, they might be going for 2-0 Sunday against the 1-0 Washington Commanders.

But the Lions will instead be looking to get into the win column in their second of two home games to open the 2022 season. Early point spreads promise a competitive game, so  it may just be a matter of the Lions finding a way to close a game–which has been a thing over 18 games in head coach Dan Campbell’s tenure. They had six one-score losses last year, with four by a field goal or less. Week 1 was also obviously a field goal margin loss.

For Week 2 against the Washington Commanders, here are four Detroit Lions players to watch.

4. WR Amon-Ra St. Brown

St. Brown followed his epic closing stretch to his rookie season with eight catches for 64 yards and a touchdown against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 1. He has a couple record streaks going, with the possibility to extend them further on Sunday against Washington.

Rumors of “The Sun God’s” demise when T.J. Hockenson and D’Andre Swift were healthy have been greatly exaggerated, apparently. He had a target share north of 32 percent against the Eagles, and even if that corrects a little moving forward, St. Brown is an easy favorite to lead the Lions in receptions this season.

But strictly on Sunday, against the Commanders, St. Brown can etch his name deeper into some NFL and team history.
