The Detroit Lions will host the Washington Commanders on Sunday in Week 2, and here are the early betting odds along with a prediction.

The Detroit Lions have another home game to start the 2022 season in Week 2, against a second straight NFC East opponent as the Washington Commanders will come to Ford Field. While the Lions lost 38-35 to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 1, Washington had a narrow 28-22 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars in their season opener.

The Lions and Washington last played in 2020, a 30-27 win for the Lions over the eventual NFC East champions. Of course the teams are in slightly different places now then they were then, with different quarterbacks being the headliner.

It’s a little early to call anything a must-win game, but the Lions would surely like to beat a beatable Commanders team that’s not likely in the same class as the Eagles.

Via FanDuel Sportsbook, as of Tuesday morning, let’s look at the odds for Lions-Commanders Week 2.

Detroit Lions vs. Washington Commanders Week 2 Odds, Prediction

Point Spread:

Commanders: +1.5 (-105)
Lions: -1.5 (-114)

Moneyline:

Commanders: +110
Lions: -130

Over/Under (49.5):

Over: (-110)
Under: (-110)

As much as it is predictive at all going back so far, the Lions have won five of their last six matchups against Washington dating back to 2009.

The Lions being favored in the early odds, even by 1.5 points on FanDuel, is as much about the positivity around them as much as it hesitancy make the Commanders a favorite. Even accounting for what is usually a three-point tilt in the spread toward the home team, this will not be a blow out in either team’s favor on Sunday.

Last week we predicted the Eagles would win and barely cover the early -3.5-point spread over the Lions, which eventually became -4.5 on FanDuel by week’s end. They didn’t cover either spread in a three-point win, but our prediction of over on 48.5 points became a formality by halftime.

Prediction: Lions win and cover the 1.5 points, while the under on 49.5 points narrowly hits.
