Amon-Ra St. Brown named most underrated wide receiver in the NFL

Seemingly cut from the same cloth, Amon-Ra St. Brown has drawn praise from a former NFL wide receiver.

It took Amon-Ra St Brown a bit to get going during his rookie season. But when he did…he had 51 receptions for 560 yards and five touchdowns (six total touchdowns) over the final six games last year. Fantasy managers who plucked him off the waiver wire, at any point in that stretch really, rejoiced.

St. Brown will clearly not be resting on that finishing laurel, as he looks to carry it into and over a full season in 2022. He is inherently motivated by his fall in the 2021 draft, able to name all 16 wide receivers who were taken before him at No. 112 overall (fourth round).

St. Brown is a tireless worker who will get the most out of his ability. A former NFL wide receiver, who had to work similarly hard to have the career he did, has noticed.

Former NFL wide receiver Julian Edelman did a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) recently. User oCrashh asked “who’s your most underrated WR  in the league today?”

Edelman said Amon-Ra St. Brown.

Edelman went from being a college quarterback at Kent State to playing 12 seasons as an NFL wide receiver for the New England Patriots, with 620 career receptions and over 6,800 yards. From 2013-2019 (six seasons played), he had 530 receptions and two 100-plus catch seasons with another campaign where he had 98 receptions.

Even with the slow start he had, St. Brown set Lions’ rookie records for receptions (90) and receiving yards (912) last year. With eight or more receptions in six straight games, he also bested Calvin Johnson’s overall franchise-record streak for games with eight or more catches.

If St. Brown puts up nice numbers this season and the Lions win a fair chunk more games, he won’t be underrated much longer. But acknowledgement from Edelman, who had to grind to earn a shot and ended up having a good career, is pretty nice.
