1. Jeff Heath

Heath spent last season with the New Orleans Saints, playing in 16 games mostly as a special teamer (318 snaps vs. 73 defensive snaps). He spent the 2020 campaign with the Las Vegas Raiders, starting five of the 13 games he played as he also had three interceptions.

Heath is best-known for his seven seasons with the Dallas Cowboys (2013-2019). Over his final three seasons in Dallas he started all 44 games he played, with over 60 total tackles in all three campaigns. That he’s still available, and not getting a shot from the start of someone’s camp, is odd.

Moore is already a valued core special teamer for the Lions, so Heath may be too much of an overlap if the Lions are only looking for safety depth with that kind of role in mind. But his experience is notable, and he’s been fairly productive as a starter when given a chance. That should be enough to get him a trip to Allen Park soon, if only for a workout.
