2. Andrew Adams

Adams may be remembered by some fans as one of the final roster cuts by the Lions back in 2019. He has spent the last four seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, one way or another, with that pitstop in Detroit as well as with the Philadelphia Eagles last offseason/preseason framing three seperate stints there.

Adams operated as a backup for the Buccaneers last year, starting three of 14 games he played (one interception, four passes defensed) with nearly an equal split of snaps between special teams (244) and defense (214). But as noted by Full Scale Philly, he posted solid grades overall (76.4) and as a run defender (81.5) from Pro Football Focus over that limited defensive work.

It’s a stretch to say he should be a starter anywhere, and he wouldn’t be available if he was that caliber, but Adams is definitely worthy of a roster spot.

Adams intercepted four passes with nine pass breakups for Tampa Bay back in 2018, so he may have some ballhawk left in him. His 87 career NFL games would rank highly among the current Lions’ safety group.

If depth is all that the Lions are seeking at safety, not someone who will necessarily usurp Elliott (or Joseph) as the starter opposite Walker, Adams looks ideal.
