What should the Detroit Lions alternate uniform look like?

With a redesign possibly coming in 2023, what should the Detroit Lions alternate uniform look like?

The Detroit Lions last changed their uniforms in 2017. That means they could have done so again this year, as NFL rules allow teams to do it every five years. But at the league meetings back in March, team president Rod Wood announced a Lions’ uniform change won’t be coming until at least 2023. It seems possible a uniform change won’t come next year, but that’s unlikely.

One potential change is the removal of the “WCF” patch honoring long-time owner William Clay Ford, who died in 2014. But it wouldn’t have to stop there, with new alternate jerseys/helmets on the table.

Wood dismissed the idea the Lions would to back to the franchise’s Portsmouth Spartans roots, with a purple, gold and black color scheme. The parallel to the purple and gold of the division rival Minnesota Vikings makes not going there obvious.

So silver, Honolulu Blue and black look to be the basis for any alternate uniform the Lions go with. Their Color Rush uniform is silver, and they of course have worn a black alternate jersey in the past.

What should the Detroit Lions alternate uniform look like?

Some alternate uniforms for NFL teams are obvious–see Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ and the “creamsicles” with “Bucco Bruce” on the helmet.

On Tuesday, the Houston Texans took their “Battle Red” alternate jersey concept to a new helmet they’ll wear for a game this season.

The Lions seem to have plenty of options for an alterate uniform and helmet combination.

A black jersey could be matched by a black helmet with a silver or blue lion on it. A Honolulu Blue helmet would be pretty cool, as mental pictures come, paired with a blue or silver jersey and a silver lion on the helmet?

So Lions’ fans, what should the team’s alternate uniform look like in 2023?
