As they mine the market for free agent wide receivers, these five under the radar targets might make sense for the Detroit Lions.

The Detroit Lions are clearly looking to bolster their wide receiver corps this offseason, as confirmed by Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reporting (subscription required) that they will be “major players” in free agent market at wide receiver (h/t to Pride of Detroit for the quote).

"The agent for one of the top pending free agent receivers said the Lions indicated in a meeting last week they value his receiver in the same financial ballpark he expects his player to fetch in free agency,” Birkett wrote on Sunday. “And multiple other sources view the Lions as legitimate contenders to sign one of the position’s premier free agents.”"

The coaching staff has made it clear the Lions are looking to make a significant addition or two at wide receiver. Among the top-end, big-named free agents at the position, Chris Godwin looks likely to be franchise tagged by the Buccaneers with a mix of others who do and don’t make sense for Detroit.

If they do get one of the top free agent wide receivers, decisions to re-sign Josh Reynolds and/or Kalif Raymond and the draft loom over who will fill out the depth chart for the Lions. Adding another veteran might be an easy order.

With or without nabbing one of the top free agents, here are five under the radar free agent wide receivers the Lions could target.
