The Detroit Lions and Allen Robinson are an easy match in free agency, and the buzz attaching the two continues to grow.
After the team gave him the franchise tag last offseason, negotiations on a longer deal seemingly never went anywhere at any time and he appeared checked out at times last season, Allen Robinson is unlikely to be back with the Chicago Bears as he hits free agency.
One of the most productive receivers in the NFL the two seasons before 2021, and underappreciated on the whole, Robinson will have multiple suitors on the free agent market. The Detroit Lions are an easy match to consider, beyond the fact Robinson is a native of the Motor City.
Last week, Adam Thompson of Bookies.com put together some odds of who will be Robinson’s next team. A bit down the list, sixth out of 10 teams listed, is the Lions at +1000.
The Lions desperately could use an established WR, they may hope for a hometown heart tug from the Detroit native.
Allen Robinson and the Lions matched on NFL.com list
Nick Shook of NFL.com has done some free agency match making, with one free agent fit for each NFC team. For the Lions’ match, he has Robinson.
Robinson remained in Chicago via the franchise tag last season and struggled mightily in an offense with plenty of issues that were unrelated to him. New Bears leadership will attempt to repair what would seem to be a very burned bridge with Robinson, but I’d expect him to leave for more money elsewhere. Detroit has a need for an impact playmaker opposite Amon-Ra St. Brown and money to spend. The Lions should shower Robinson with cash.
As the Lions look hard at wide receivers at the NFL Combine this week, free agency will provide some potential answers too. Robinson looks like an ideal fit if the price is right, and it’s getting hard to ignore the buzz matching player and team.
