Report: Jim Caldwell also wanted by Jaguars for second interview

Former Lions head coach Jim Caldwell is lined up for one second interview, with a report he’ll be wanted for a second interview elsewhere.

However many interviews he has had or maybe turned down, former Lions head coach Jim Caldwell looks like a top candidate for two current openings. The Chicago Bears reportedly want him for a second interview, which solidifies him as a finalist for that job.

Caldwell was one of the first to interview for the Jacksonville Jaguars’ head coaching job, before the regular season ended since he was not coaching anywhere. As a round of second interviews gets set to begin in Jacksonville, seemingly starting with one of the favorites in Byron Leftwich, a list of presumed finalists appears to have emerged.

According to Aaron Wilson of Pro Football Network, Caldwell is on the list of those Jacksonville is expected to invite for a second interview.

"The Jaguars are expected to start inviting multiple candidates for second interviews to be conducted in person. Among them are Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich, Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, Buccaneers defensive coordinator Todd Bowles, Jacksonville interim coach Darrell Bevell, and former Detroit Lions and Indianapolis Colts head coach Jim Caldwell."

The above list is surely in no particular order, so Caldwell coming in at the end is not important. Bowles and Eberflus have interviewed for multiple openings, with Eberflus standing alongside Caldwell as an apparent finalist for the Bears’ job. Bevell is still an odd inclusion and it’s hard to see him as a serious candidate, but the Jaguars appear to not have ruled him out since a second interview would be a little more than a professional courtesy of a first interview after he took over for Urban Meyer this year.

Caldwell looks to be a more prominent candidate for the Bears, if only because they have a more narrow list of those they want for second interviews. But it’s a point in his corner that two teams with a young quarterback in place still have interest in having him as their head coach.
